Some organizations utilize the term "in good standing" to indicate membership status. If such is the case, it is necessary to define what constitutes a member in good standing with the organization. Organizations which fmd it necessary to cite procedures for the removal of any member official should exercise great care in drafting such procedures to insure that the member's right to due process and appeal are protected.) .
ARTICLE VI
Dues: (COMMENT: This article should include the details as to the amount of dues, how and when these shall be paid, and delinquencies, penalties for non-payment, reinstatement procedures and method
to expend monies. No organization is required to charge dues. The amount of dues may be
included in the By-laws rather in this section if desired.)
ARTICLE VII
By-Laws: A by-law may be passed at any regular business meeting of the organization by a majority vote of those in attendance provided a quorum is present. (COMMENT: If a group has the need to draft by-laws and these are not adopted at the same time as is the constitution, provision for such should be included in the constitution. Generally speaking, by-laws are the details of an organization that are not defined and specified by the constitution. Any by-law may be passed which is in harmony with the purpose of the organization as defmed by the constitution. A constitution provides for the broad explanation of the organization's operations while the by-laws are those specific items which may be subject to change. In most organizations the by-laws may be changed by a majority vote while a constitutional revision (amendments) would require a two thirds majority change.)
ARTICLE VIII
Reports to the Campus Life Office:
Section 1. At the beginning of the fall semester, (name of organization) shaHreport the name of its officers and advisors to the Department of Campus Life, 060 Student Union, and shaH promptly report any changes that occur during the school year. (COMMENT: Changes in officers and/or faculty advisor which occur during the year must be reported to the Department of Campus Life promptly in order that the organizational records are kept current.) .
Section 2. At the beginning of the fan semester, (name of organization) will file with the Department of Campus Life a signed "Affirmation of Compliance."
Section 3. The funds of (name of organization) will be deposited with the university banking services and these win be audited yearly, preferably at the time a new treasurer is installed. (COMMENT: The OSU Student Rights and Responsibilities Section VIII requires that all recognized organizations keep all funds with the University banking service.)
Section 4. It is understood that failure to submit such materials, either through continued negligence or willful omission, may result in the suspension of the charter of this organization by the Committee on Student Organizations.
ARTICLE IX
Amendments:
(COMMENT: This section should include the method whereby the constitution may be amended,
through addition, deletion, or revision. It should indicate the method by which amendments may
be submitted, special time provisions for voting (if any), and the percentage or number necessary
for passage. All constitutional changes must be submitted to the Department of Campus Life, for
approval by the Committee on Student Organizations. Forms for submitting constitutional
changes, name changes, etc., are available horn the Department of Campus Life).
