THEORETICAL LIMITS SECTION

1. For the reaction vessel chosen, the volume is approximately 20 oz. A weight of 18.04 g of Hydrogen Peroxide has been determined as the max to ensure the pressure safety regulations are not broken. The determined maximum operating pressure is 160 psi. 2. This reaction is not reversible, but the catalyst can be removed and reused for another run. The KI is the catalyst used for the reaction and can be removed from the left over solution by distillation. Once the KI is collected, you only need more Hydrogen Peroxide. 3. The reaction is thermodynamically favorable because the peroxide is being converted into two more stable components, and has an equilibrium constant average of 13.36. The theoretical temperature max for the amount of hydrogen peroxide used is 344 K.
